Haynes Sweeps Top 3 at PCSAA XC Championships and Claim PCSAA Title

Haynes sweep Top 3 places at the Public Charter School Athletic Association (PCSAA) Cross Country Championships at Fort Dupont Park. On the always tough grass and hill course, Junior Jelani White captured the overall title with a time of 19:08. Renard Joyner finished second. He was followed by Brendan Epton rounding out the top 3. 

The team title was also captured as Haynes has runners, Reginald Gaskins and Eddy Reyes-Hernandez place 12th and 13th respectively. This gave Haynes a score of 27 points which was 3 more than Washington Latin. 

The team's next competition is at the District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) Cross Country State Championship at Fort Dupont Park on November 1, 2014. 

 

Three Top 5 Runners at PCSAA Mid-Season Invitational

E.L. Haynes continues to dominate the Public Charter School Athletic Association (PCSAA) with three runners placing in the top 5 of the PCSAA Mid-Season Invitational. Junior, J. White, crossed the line first with a winning time of 19;35. Junior, R. Joyner, placed second with a time of 20:12. Junior, B. Epton, placed fourth with a time of 20:30. 

The meet was held at Fort Dupont Park, which is known for having a tough course. The runners navigated through steep grass hills, and many turns for the 5K course. This in turn resulted in runners competing for place instead of time. 

The Mountain Lions also placed second on the boys side, one point behind Washington Latin for the team title. 

Other notable E.L. Haynes performances were: 

Sophomore R. Gaskins- 14th: 23:31

Senior E. Walker 18th- 24:53

The next competition will be on October 22, 2014 at the PCSAA Championship. The meet will be held at Fort Dupont Park. 

White Breaks School Record at DCXC Invite

J.  White had another strong showing at the DCXC Invite. The meet hosted over 2500 athletes competing in 12 different races. Running against top competition from juniors from DC, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Delaware, he placed 57th out of 198 runners.

His time of 18:01, also is the fastest time in E.L. Haynes' history. As the season progresses, White is expected to continue to lower the school record time.

R. Joyner also posted a strong showing, running a time of 19:40 in the Junior Boys race.

In the Freshman/Sophomore Boys race, R. Gaskins ran his personal best time of 22:23. He placed 77th out of 208 runners. 

The next competition is the PCSAA Mid-Season Invite on Wednesday October 1, 2014 at Fort DuPont Park. 

 

White, Joyner, and Epton Shine at PCSAA Early Bird Invitational

J. White (Junior) capped off his first win of the season at the Bulldog-Eagle 5K with another victory at the PCSAA Early Bird Invitational. He ran a school and meet record time of 18:35. On a tough and hilly, he led through the last mile of the race after finding the right pace for the first two. A late surge by the runner-up did not phase him as he charged through the line. 

R. Joyner (Junior) ran a personal best time of 18:41 as he placed third. B. Epton (Junior) also ran a personal best time of 18:46 as he placed sixth. Both runners are coming off All-Conference seasons last season and plan on continuing their success.

Other notable performances were from K. Abney (Junior):PR 20:29 and R. Gaskins (Sophomore): PR 22:04

The cross country team will be in competition next at the DCXC Invite on Saturday September 27, 2014. This meet will host more than 50 schools (Public, Private, Charter and Independent) from MD, VA, DC, PA, NC, and DE.

 

White Breaks School Record and Wins First Place at Bulldog-Eagle 5K

J. White (Junior) wins first place at Bulldog-Eagle 5K which was hosted by St. Anslem Abbey School in Washington DC. In doing so, he also broke the school record at the 5K distance with a time of 18:55. He ran an impressive race, taking the lead at the 2 mile mark and holding it throughout the finish.

Being his first season on the cross country team, he has much more experience to gain and his times will continue to get faster and faster.

B. Epton (Junior): 21:10

K. Abney (Junior): 22:44

R.  Gaskins  (Sophomore) : 23:00 

The cross country team will compete again on Wednesday September 17, 2014 at the Public Charter School Athletic Association (PCSAA) Early Bird Invitational at Fort Dupont Park.
