The Haynes JV Boys Basketball Team has opened up PCSAA conference play with back to back come from behind victories. On Monday Jan. 13, they defeated Friendship Tech after being down by 17 points at halftime. The second half surge was led by junior Sanu Basu who scored 19 of his game high 28 points after the break. Sophomore Josef Samson also hit two big threes in the third quarter to close the deficit and finished the game with 8 points.
In Tuesday's action, Haynes went up against Cesar Chavez. Continuing sluggish first half play, Haynes was down at the end of the first quarter 15-8. A slow start to the second quarter allowed for Chavez to go up by 12 points. Haynes cut the lead to 5 going into the half. In the second half, Haynes looked unstoppable led by a balanced attack from juniors Demani Wallace (15 points), Abdulai Sesay (16 points), Sanu Basu (13 points) and sophomore Renard Joyner (16 points). However sharp shooting from Chavez kept them into the game and ultimately overtime. There Haynes controlled the ball and clutch free throw shooting by Wallace sealed the win.
Next action is Thursday Jan. 16, at home vs. Perry Street Prep.
