Score
HAYNES: 1
FIELD SCHOOL: 1

The EL Haynes Boys Varsity soccer game kicked off their 2014 campaign with a tie, 1 - 1, against the Field School.  The Mountain Lions were tested early by a barrage of shots, corner kicks, and breakaways from the Field team, but were kept in the game early by a great debut goalkeeping outing by senior A. Sesay.  Sesay recorded 4 saves in the first half, including a diving ricochet off of a rocket shot right in the box.  At the end of the first half, the Field school finally put one on the board off of a corner kick.

With the start of the second half came more offense from the Haynes team.  Sophomore B. Gebrie, along with fellow mid fielders sophomore A. Rezene and junior R. Martinez, led the Haynes offense to several attacking chances early in the half.  With 12 minutes left in the game, sophomore T. Watson pushed up on the left side, outrunning a Field player to win a loose ball, and pushed the ball back into the middle towards the top of the 18th.  A. Rezene passed it on to sophomore M. Rezene, who after one blocked shot attempt, pushed the ball another touch to the right and ripped a shot to the lower left hand corner of the goal, through traffic and past a diving Field keeper, to pull Haynes back into a tie.

Haynes and Field both traded socring attempts through the last 10 minutes of the game, but each were unable to breakthrough.  During a 20 minute sudden death overtime, neither team was able to put a final tally on the board.

The Mountain Lions defense, led by senior J. Lele-Pero and sophomore H. Carillo, played tight, consistent defense throughout the game.  Defenders I. Uceda (Sr.), X. Wingfield , (Sr.) J. Castenada (So.) and E. Deleon (Sr.) all contributed excellent efforts and held a tough Field offense to just one goal.

The Mountain Lions will be back in action on Monday, September 8th, in the semifinals of the 2nd Annual Petworth Cup, against Washignton Latin.
