The E.L. Haynes girls flag football team got their first win of the season yesterday evening!
With explosive plays on offense, a relentless defensive effort, and strong sideline leadership, the Mountain Lions opened the year with a commanding 46-0 victory over local rival DCI at The Fields at RFK.
Naima B. delivered one of the game’s biggest performances, scoring three touchdowns and making her impact felt on both sides of the ball. She hauled in two touchdown passes from Katherine V. and added another score on an interception return. Naima also came away with two interceptions, helping lead a defensive unit that kept DCI off the scoreboard from start to finish.
E.L. Haynes continued its offensive surge as Jessica R. added a touchdown reception from Mia L. Mia also connected with Khiya V. for another score, giving the Mountain Lions multiple standout moments in a game filled with highlights.
The win reflected a complete team performance, with players stepping up across the field and setting an early tone for what could be an exciting year. Head Coach Diandre Lucas, along with Assistant Coaches Officer Ward and Kamari T. (who coached the defense) had plenty to celebrate after a game that showcased both preparation and promise.
More than just a lopsided final score, the victory was a statement. E.L. Haynes played with confidence, energy, and pride, looking every bit like a team ready to make noise this season.
The Mountain Lions will look to keep that momentum going when they host SEED on Monday, March 30, at 4:30 p.m.
For E.L. Haynes, this was more than a win. It was an impressive first step and, perhaps, a sign of many more highlights to come.
